MacKillop honours ANZAC Day
Our college has a strong connection when it comes to ANZAC Day and part of these celebrations involve traditional tributes and participation in local events. This year marks a special anniversary with 100 years since the end of World War I.
Toukley RSL
Despite the wet weather, MacKillop Primary students and Secondary parliament students marched up Main Road to Toukley RSL where an annual service was held. Our students walk with pride, holding our MacKillop and Australian flags high as they march before an emotional service to reflect on those who gave their lives during war.
Honour Our Fallen
On the same day, a number of other MacKillop students contributed to the cause of Honour Our Fallen, where graves of veterans are paid tribute to with a small Australian flag. Our students joined another several schools who performed this task across 2,000 graves across the Central Coast, making a huge local impact and beautiful display of respect.
NZ ANZAC Sport Tour
A number of our students attended an excursion to New Zealand to compete in Netball and Rugby League competitions on behalf of MacKillop. This trip was formed around ANZAC Day where the entire group attended the dawn service held in Auckland. These students were able to experience the meaning of ANZAC in New Zealand, and understand the emotional symbolism in the memorial.
ANZAC service at MacKillop Catholic College
For the first time, ANZAC Day occurred in the school holidays, so our college held our traditional service on Tuesday 1 May where all of K-12 came together to honour our fallen veterans. This included the unveiling of an art installation project that HSIE students and staff initiated and our entire college have contributed to. A special thank you to our special guests: Mr Arch Wooldridge, Mr Bob Wilson, Mr George Meier, Mr Milton Porter, and our many parents.
