A Wonderful Start to the Year in Religious Education
The start of the school year has been an exciting time for our Religious Education faculty, with the addition of many new staff members. Their wealth of knowledge and experience has been warmly welcomed by both students and colleagues, enriching our learning environment and bringing fresh perspectives to our classrooms.
Our Year 7 students have also had a fantastic beginning to their high school journey. This term, they are engaging with the unit Belonging to the Catholic Community, which introduces them to the values and traditions of our faith. A significant highlight of the term was their first Spirituality Days in Week 5. Half of the year group attended St Joseph’s Spirituality Centre, while the other half remained at the college, swapping locations the following day.
During these special days, students explored what it means to be a ‘MacKillop Person’ by learning about our patron saint, Mary of the Cross MacKillop, the House System, and the Josephite charism. These experiences encouraged them to develop a deeper sense of belonging within the Catholic tradition and to embrace the spirit of our school motto, Christ our Light. Students also reflected on Mary MacKillop’s famous words, “Never see a need without doing something about it”, and how they can embody this principle in their daily lives.
A special highlight was the visit from Father Philip, who attended a session at Kincumber. He shared insights about the oldest Catholic Church on the Central Coast, Holy Cross Church in Kincumber South, and spoke about the significance of signs and symbolism within the Catholic tradition. This was a meaningful experience that helped students connect their faith to the rich history of our local community.
As we move into the assessment period for all our courses, we wish all of our students the best of luck. With such a positive and enriching start to the year, we look forward to the continued growth and success of our Religious Education faculty and students.
