Australian Representative Sportsman, Cohen S
We are so excited to announce that Cohan S has been selected to represent Australia in the World Dwarf Games being held in Cologne Germany from July 28 to August 5, 2023. Cohan, Year 9, will be the youngest Australian representative to attend the games and has been selected for 2 teams, basketball and soccer.
The World Dwarf Games are the largest international sporting event held exclusively for athletes with dwarfism. It is anticipated that 2023 will see the largest contingent of short-statured athletes to attend a World Dwarf Games – making it the biggest dwarf-sporting event in history. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Cohan, especially because when he was younger he was told he would most likely not be able to participate in competitive sports at this level due to medical complications.
The World Dwarf Games attracts athletes with dwarfism from around the world to participate in sports that include basketball, soccer, track and field, volleyball, swimming, table tennis, badminton, floor hockey, boccia, archery, Curling, powerlifting and marksmanship. Athletes of all ages and every level of ability will be encouraged to participate in team and individual sports and explore their athletic abilities with others of similar stature. Participants also take part in special events to celebrate international understanding, promote awareness of the dwarf experience worldwide, provide on-site clinics for athletes and sports professionals and introduce participants to elite athletes with dwarfism, many of whom have participated in international competitions such as the Parapan Am Games and Paralympics. The aim is to provide the participants, their families and supporters, with a welcoming and supportive environment for competitive sport while providing opportunities for forging lifelong friendships.
Supporting the Australian World Dwarf Games team in 2023 is an opportunity to influence change in the disability-sporting sector.
