Finding our treasure in Book Week
Book Week was held in Week 5, between 20-24 August, and this year’s theme ‘Find your treasure’ saw many pirates plundering at MacKillop.
We began the week by welcoming children’s author, Belinda Murrell, who spoke to students in Years 5-8 about her inspiration, experience and success. Belinda’s books include popular series ‘Lulu Bell’ and ‘Pippa’s Island’, as well as other historical fiction tales.
The annual Book Parade was held on Tuesday in the Hall, and once again, our students raised the bar in costume creativity. This event is a wonderful celebration of the worlds, adventure and treasure that books provide to all. View our Book Parade gallery here.
Year 9-11 students had the privilege of hearing from James Knight, nonfiction author, in a thoroughly entertaining presentation which included students thinking about the questions required to gain a deeper understanding of events. To demonstrate this, he asked participants to lead him through the crowd and asked questions about what was going on.
The week ended with talented illustrator, Nathaniel Eckstrom, who engaged students in K-4 with a creativity workshop. Nathaniel was quite impressed with the work of our students as they learned to bring book characters to life in illustration – our staff didn’t do too badly, either!
