Harmony Day Colour Run
On Friday, March 28, we gathered as a vibrant K-12 student and staff community to joyfully celebrate the conclusion of Harmony Week at MacKillop Catholic College (MCC). The centrepiece of our festivities was the exhilarating Colour Run, which truly lit up the day! Throughout the event, students engaged in a variety of activities that highlighted and embraced the diverse cultures within our community, fostering a sense of belonging for everyone.
As part of the day’s events, we also raised money for Caritas through Project Compassion. This incredible program inspires Australians to come together, raising essential funds to combat poverty and promote justice while upholding the dignity of the most vulnerable communities across the globe.
As the day began, our students stood together like a canvas of potential in their plain t-shirts. As they ran or walked three laps of the course, they transformed into a brilliant display of five vibrant colours, celebrating unity and diversity. In the lead-up to the Colour Run, students and staff enthusiastically submitted their favourite songs, which our DJ masterfully blended into a lively soundtrack that kept spirits high. For those who chose not to run, there were plenty of engaging activities, including collaborative banner creation and cultural crafts. Our student leaders led us in learning songs and dances from around the world, adding an extra layer of excitement.
We also took a moment to reflect on the rich tapestry of cultures represented at our College. Insightful guest speakers from our community shared their experiences, enriching our understanding of what makes our community so unique. We learned more about the remarkable work that Caritas is doing to uplift communities worldwide.
The success of this event is a shining testament to the enthusiasm and collaborative spirit of everyone involved. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our organising committee— Rachael Elcoate, Sherylyn Kenney, Sarah Shorter, Lucy Marien, Sharon Baird, Jessica Higgins, James Hodgeson, and Tim Snelling. Your creativity, dedication, and teamwork were essential in making this event a reality, and your contributions are truly appreciated.
